Ocean Street patrons can prepare for a dining experience like no other following council’s approval of an “Eat Street” inspired food outlet, designed solely from shipping containers.
The approved plans involve concentrations of food outlets operating within the converted shipping containers, providing a wide variety of dining options, adding to the urban characterof the street.
Division 8 Councillor Jason O’Pray said the development application was unusual, the idea of converting old shipping containers into a food outlet would certainly draw some attention.
“As the traditional main street CBD of Maroochydore, this new eatery will provide a wide selection of dining options within a casual and contemporary setting,” Cr O’Pray said.
“A total of 14 tenancies will be available on site, each within their own individual shipping container.
“The containers will be arranged to create a semi-covered urban laneway through the centre of the site, with informal seating and landscaping providing a unique experience for all.
“Although this will predominantly be a food and drink outlet, there will also be the opportunity for individual tenancies for shops that fit the character and feel of this development.
“The Ocean Street revitalisation has definitely been an outstanding success and is providing a fine service for our community by supporting our local businesses and creating local jobs.
“The dining and entertainment precinct has really become a hub for arts, culture, music and great food.
“People all across the Coast are talking about it and I can only assume this latest approval will enhance our vision for the street.”
Planning Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson said it was encouraging to see the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme was providing the right conditions for developments to prosper in the right locations.
“The planning scheme is continuing to provide support to ongoing development applications and this type of food outlet will certainly add to Ocean Street’s intended urban laneway character and vibe,” Cr Dickson said.
“I’m always impressed with the ongoing success of the Ocean Street precinct. This creative concept will undoubtedly enhance the urban look and feel for the area and will do wonders for our local businesses.”
