Queensland-based artist Lincoln Austin will open his latest exhibition, After Reflecting on the Matter, at Caloundra Regional Gallery tomorrow (Wednesday, November 30).
Lincoln is known for his sculptural and relief works which explore the interplay between colour, geometry, pattern and scale.
After Reflecting on the Matter brings together recent works by the artist, including a number of reiterations of works made during Austin’s 2015 British School at Rome residency.
The exhibition will be officially opened by Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski, with guest speaker, architect Michael Rayner AM, on Friday, December 2 at 6pm.
Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said this would be a superb way to finish another year of outstanding exhibitions at Caloundra Regional Gallery.
“The gallery has presented an exceptional series of exhibitions this year,” Cr Baberowski said.
“ After Reflecting on the Matter is the final exhibition on the calendar and I encourage everyone to visit the gallery over the holiday period to see the amazing collection of contemporary works by Lincoln Austin.”
Caloundra Regional Gallery curator Hamish Sawyer said the gallery was delighted to present the work of a leading contemporary Queensland artist such as Lincoln Austin.
“Audiences will be captivated by his complex geometric creations and will delight in his technical mastery and use of colour and pattern,” Mr Sawyer said.
“In addition to recreating several works from his British School at Rome residency, not previously seen in Australia, Austin will present a brand new installation entitled ‘The Impossibility of Objectivity’ made especially for his exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery.”
The exhibition will close on Sunday, January 15, 2017.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the gallery is offering the opportunity for visitors to try their own hand at getting creative.
A dedicated space within the gallery will feature self-guided children’s activities using everyday materials that Austin uses in his works.
