Clean-up underway following Sunshine Coast storms

A major clean-up operation is underway in the Beerwah and Landsborough areas this morning after last night’s severe storms on the Sunshine Coast.

Council and emergency services crews will be active in the area throughout the day and motorists are asked to delay any non-essential travel while crews undertake restoration works.

The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group remains at stand up status, while around 6000 Energex customers are currently without power after strong winds and fallen trees brought down powerlines at the peak of the storms.

The State Emergency Service has received 112 requests for assistance from last night through to this morning.

Steve Irwin Way remains fully closed in both directions due to a number of trees blocking the road. It is expected it will be cleared and reopened around noon today.

Sam White Drive at Buderim is also closed after the road surface sustained significant flood water damage.

Queensland Rail has advised that no trains are running between Caboolture to Gympie due to overhead damage. Alternative transport arrangements are being coordinated.

Two cars and a caravan were damaged at the Landsborough Pines Caravan Park, however no injuries were reported. The affected residents were safely accommodated for the night.

All Sunshine Coast beaches are open as normal and flights at Sunshine Coast Airport have not been affected.
