Sunshine Coast Council is inviting amateur photographers on the Coast to take part in a competition that could net them $1,000 during Local Government Week.

Council is looking to the budding photographers of the Sunshine Coast for imaginative and original images that represent the competition theme, ‘sustainability in action’.

There are three categories for submission.

  • Environmental sustainability Prize $500
  • Economic sustainability Prize $750
  • Social sustainability Prize $1000

This year’s Local Government Week theme, is ‘Switched on Councils, powering Queensland communities into sustainability’, but….what does sustainability mean? The harder the category, the bigger the prize, the challenge is on!

Judging will be based on how well the photograph captures the competition theme, as well as on photographic excellence, composition and originality.

The deadline for submissions is 5 pm, Monday 22 May 2009 and submissions must be:

  • 8inch x 12inch (20 cm x 30 cm) or 8inch x 10inch (20 cm x 25 cm)
  • a minimum dpi of 300
  • taken on the Sunshine Coast within the past 12 months

All prizes, awarded during local government week on 3 June, will be redeemable as a voucher at any one store of any kind across the coast. The chosen store must operate a voucher system.

Entries will be on display during June and July in council libraries.

Photographers up to the challenge should head to council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or council customer service centres for detailed information and entry forms.
