Building Australia’s smart region in Division 1

The parks and gardens in Division 1 enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors each year have received more than $500,000 in funding in the Sunshine Coast Council 2016/17 budget.

Divisional Councillor Rick Baberowski said Council’s $253 million capital works budget was focused on building Australia’s smart region through a range of community projects.

“Around $8 million in capital works will be expended in Division 1 over the next 12 months which is a real show of the progress and enhancements that are being made in our part of the Coast," Cr Baberowski said.

“One of our goals is to offer the best variety of parks in the region, and potentially South-East Queensland, and we are certainly making strong progress towards that target.

“We have $508,000 in capital works planned for our division’s parks and gardens in the next year, including $200,000 at the Glass House District Recreation Park which is becoming one of the premier family friendly outdoors destinations in our division.

“It has tremendous potential to be a great place for families, events and activities and we’ve appreciated having the public’s feedback during our planning process.

“In the coming year, we have also allocated $100,000 to continuing to implement the landscape plan for Turner Park which is a pleasant spot to relax in the heart of Beerwah.

“This project delivers on an action identified in an extensive community consultation process that council undertook and is part of the Beerwah Public Domain Masterplan.

“Another $200,000 has been allocated to improved public amenities at Peace Memorial Park in Landsborough.

“Over the next 12 months, we will also see new features and facility renewals at Newton Park in Beerwah, Courthouse Park and Pioneer Park at Landsborough, Lillypilly Court Park at Meridan Plains and Uniting Park at Glass House Mountains.”

Improving transport infrastructure remains a chief objective of council and almost $1million has been allocated to Division 1 for 2016/17.

“Our three main projects for the year ahead are widening a section of Pikes Rd, Glass House Mountains ($400,000), a sealed car park to service the pool and skate park at Roberts Rd, Beerwah ($300,000) and at Carnarvon Dr, Beerwah ($182,000) where we will undertake road widening and a connection to the Coochin Twins development,” Cr Baberowski said.

The 2016/17 Budget has also allocated $3.29 million to expand the landfill at the Caloundra Resource Recovery Centre, $1.24 million to construct a new council depot at Roys Rd, Beerwah and $175,000 to the Caloundra Aerodrome.

Division 1 budget highlights include:

• $400,000 for minor emergent works.
• $350,000 to construct the entrance roundabout at Pierce Avenue, Caloundra.
• $300,000 to seal the carpark at Roberts Rd, Beerwah.
• $250,000 at the Caloundra South Precinct 2 to plan and design the Community Centre and the Sports Club House.
• $200,000 to implement stage 1 of the masterplan at Glass House District.Recreation Park.
• $200,000 to renew the public amenities at Peace Memorial Park, Landsborough .
• $182,000 to widen Carnarvon Dr, Beerwah and connect it to Tower Lane, Beerwah.
• $115,000 to revegetate, rehabilitate and clear Caloundra Aerodrome.
• $100,000 to implement the landscape plan at Turner Park, Beerwah.
• $75,000 to design the bio basin at the Caloundra Landfill.
• $70,000 to renew Newton Park Playground, Beerwah.
• $70,000 to refresh Pioneer Park, Landsborough.
• $38,000 to replace the fence and gate at Jill Chamberlain Reserve, Caloundra West.
• $35,000 to improve the common areas at the Caloundra Aerodrome.
• $25,000 to design the T Hanger at the Caloundra Aerodrome.
• $25,000 to upgrade the car park at Barrs Rd, Glass House Mountains.
• $25,000 to upgrade the car park at Fullertons Rd, Glass House Mountains.
• $25,000 for road safety measures at Commissioners Flat Rd, Peachester.
• $20,000 to renew the shelter at Courthouse Park, Landsborough.
• $20,000 to improve open drainage at Old Landsborough Rd, Beerwah.
• $16,286 to improve stormwater drainage at Wheeler Cr, Caloundra West.
• $15,000 to expand the Beerwah Cemetery.
• $15,000 to renew the fire trail at Bobbie Sattler Reserve, Bells Reach.
• $15,000 to upgrade the shelters at Lillypilly Ct Park, Meridan Plains.
• $10,000 to install shade sail at Uniting Park, Glass House Mountains.
• $8,000 to install a noticeboard at Maleny Street, Landsborough.
• $8,000 to apply batter protection to River Road Bridge, Peachester.
