Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will be joined by Orchestra of Good Shepherd Lutheran College, for one performance only at council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre on Sunday, November 20 at 3pm.

From Mexico to Finland, the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra and conductor Antoni Bonetti will take the audiences for a trip around the world, with stopovers in Germany, Hungary, Russia, USA, Italy, Austria, Japan, UK and Australia.

The journey all starts in Australia with Carl Vine’s contemporary classic, Celebrare Celeberrime. The title of this work means “to celebrate to the full and with greatest speed” so we are sure to set off with great velocity.

The audience then travels to Finland, with the Karelia Suite by Sibelius, and to Hungary with a Brahms Hungarian Dance before a brief stopover in Japan with Takemitsu’s Green for Orchestra, a mysterious work infusing Japanese history and culture into a Western orchestra.

The audience then takes flight to England for Elgar’s ever popular Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1, which captures a spirit of hope and triumph that is frequently used as a processional tune at graduation ceremonies in America.

America itself is not neglected, with Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and Appalachian Spring.

Then of course, we could not neglect the operatic tradition of Europe, with some of your favourite tenor arias as a special treat.

And finally, a very special moment for the orchestra – a performance of the third movement of Brahms’ violin concerto, with our own André Allavena. A work that transcends all nationalities in its power, beauty and complexity.

Tickets are just $20 per adult, $10 for children aged 3 to 17 with children free under 3. Lake Kawana Community Centre on 5413 1400 or visit www.scvenuesandevents.com.au
