The Sunshine Coast’s creative minds are invited to a special screening of the provocative international documentary Design and Thinking at Birch Carol and Coyle Cinemas at 5.45pm on 20 September 2012.

Proudly presented by Sunshine Coast Council's smartArts+ program and local design business Analogue Digital, the documentary profiles leading international design thinkers and will be followed by a panel discussion and networking.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said this is a rare opportunity for creative minds on the Coast to come together and be inspired by world leading entrepreneurs.

"The special screening is a component of the Creative Industries Focus 2012 designed to highlight the value of design in changing our world and economy," Cr McKay said.

"Our region is recognised nationally for being the home of award winning designers and creative thinkers from numerous fields.

"These innovative minds will continue to position the Coast as a livable and distinct destination that fosters a world class creative industry.

"We invite the region’s creative industry to be invigorated by this documentary which showcases designers, social change-makers and unlikely individuals who discuss the challenge of creative business and collaboration in the 21st century.

"They will be challenged to distinguish what others think of as design, usually the surface, to the thinking behind, to the process and function.

"Council looks forward to drawing on the region’s 'design thinking' expertise as we plan for the Principle Regional Activity Centre.

"We hope this will be the first of many conversational opportunities for the design industry across the Sunshine Coast."

The Design and Thinking event also forms part of the inaugural national film tour premiering in Brisbane and sponsored by industry partners Australian Graphic Design Association, Design Institute of Australia with the assistance of UR(BNE) Films and Analogue Digital.

The format of the Design and Thinking evening will commence with the documentary screening at 6pm, followed by a moderated panel discussion at 7.15pm including industry experts

  • Ben Johnston of JOSEPHMARK
  • Tanja Hall of JOLT and AGDA Qld President
  • Adam Blake of Enterprise Connect
  • Timothy Hill of Donovan Hill.
  • Design and Thinking

Design and Thinking will conclude with a networking event at local venue Sol Bar at Maroochydore. Bookings are essential by visiting the Design and Thinking website.
