Caloundra’s popular Bulcock Street markets are about to get more artistic.
Caloundra’s popular Bulcock Street markets are about to get more artistic.
A new section known as The Art Markets will be added to Felicity Park, outside the library, on two weekends in August and October. These are:
- 8am to 1pm Sunday 23 August
- 8am to 1pm Sunday 4 October
The Art Markets are being held to celebrate the Sunshine Coast Art Prize, which has attracted leading contemporary artists from all over Australia. All finalists in this prestigious prize will be on display in the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery from 19 August until 4 October.
The much-awaited winner of the $20,000 cash and artists-in-residency prize will be announced on 27 August.
Gallery Director John Waldron said opening up the area outside the gallery into an Art Market was a way of turning two key dates in the Sunshine Coast Art Prize into a celebration of local arts.
“The Art Markets are for original Australian art and craft and will showcase the talent of the region’s artists and craftspeople and provide an energetic and colourful addition to the Sunday Bulcock Street Markets,” he said.
“It will also help boost community awareness of the outstanding art on display inside the gallery.”
