Sunshine Coast Council took out the top gong for their eBusiness platform at a prestigious national awards ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday night.
Council is the winner of the Applications Development Category in the Excellence in eGovernment Awards 2013, conducted by the Australian Government Information Management Office.
Services Delivery Portfolio Councillor Ted Hungerford said council is excited and encouraged to be recognised for its efforts to improve the customer online service delivery experience through harnessing new technology.
“Council’s eBusiness platform provides a single window to online services meeting the needs of our wide range of customers,” Cr Hungerford said.
“The integrated platform enables the community to quickly and easily interact with council about online services when and where they need and want to.”
The eBusiness platform consists of three main components:
- MyCouncil acts as the gateway to council’s online services and is the central hub for all current and future modules of the platform by providing a personalised registration and unified login process for all customers
- MyCouncil Services, accessed via the McCouncil hompage, is the main platform for conducting traditional business with council in relation to property, rates, animals, applications and service requests
- Community Groups Directory is an online directory and meeting place for the wide range of community groups throughout the Sunshine Coast, providing a specialised area for engagement and collaboration within the community and with council.
Finance Portfolio Councillor Chris Thompson said the eBusiness platform has already made significant inroads into meeting its objectives within one year of its launch.
“In addition to improving the availability of services and information to customers, the eBusiness platform aims to reduce operational costs, increase the productivity of council officers, provide transparency and increase engagement with the community,” Cr Thompson said.
Chief Information Officer, Brian Beswick said the eBusiness platform provides the foundation and ability for all of the business specific initiatives to follow.
“The platform is starting to transform not only the way that many residents engage with council, but the way that council does day-to-day business with its customers,” Mr Beswick said.
“We not only provide the services to traditional web access but also to smart mobile phones and tablet devices.
“This trend is set to continue with the steady addition of new features and services to the platform including the ability to apply for property searches, lodge development applications and book temporary events at council’s 400 managed venues.”
