A shared vision
Council’s vision is to be Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green, diverse.
Council’s vision is to be Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green, diverse.
But what do you think? Council is seeking feedback on its draft corporate plan endorsed at last week’s ordinary meeting of council.
Shaping a positive future and creating a council that the people of the Sunshine Coast are proud of are the cornerstones of council’s first-ever corporate plan.
These ambitions, combined with the knowledge and life experiences of our community and staff, have produced a plan that reflects a common vision for the Sunshine Coast.
The corporate plan is council’s core strategic document. It identifies the priorities for council until 2014 and beyond. It also guides council’s decision-making, budget, operations, and resource allocations to achieve our vision.
Corporate Planning and Performance Portfolio holder and Deputy Mayor, Cr Tim Dwyer, said that developing this first plan was an interesting and exciting journey.
“Beginning in July 2008, the newly-elected councillors and senior management team broadly outlined the vision and themes,” Cr Dwyer said.
“To ensure our ideas were on track, they were discussed at a special community conference held in November 2008.”
People of all ages attended the conference. And, with diverse experiences and special interests including the environment, education, business, sport, health and the arts, participants were able to explore the draft vision and themes from a variety of perspectives.
“Thoughts were shared and passionate and enthusiastic discussions resulted in a reworking of the vision and the addition of an eighth theme, Managing Growth,” Cr Dwyer said.
“More than 600 ideas were also generated for council to consider.
“The draft corporate plan is now available and I encourage everyone to look at it and consider how well it fits with their desires for the future of the Sunshine Coast region.”
So let us know what you think. View the plan on council’s website or in hard copy at any council customer service centre or library.
