La Boite Theatre Company’s compassionate and hilariously unsentimental theatre performance 4000 miles by Amy Herzog will be presented by Sunshine Coast Council’s Coolum Civic Centre on Saturday, April 23 at 7.30pm.

La Boite Theatre Company is renowned for its stellar productions, and with 90 years of trailblazing independent theatre under its belt, it only continues to get better with age.

Now bringing to the spotlight its new production 4000 miles, you are guaranteed that it will excite your senses, ignite your imagination, engage your intellect and remind you of the unique power of live theatre.

The story begins with Leo, a 21-year-old male who rocks up unannounced at the Manhattan apartment of his 91-year-old Jewish grandmother Vera.

Having broken up with his girlfriend and cycled across the country, he needs a place to crash for the night, no questions asked. But Vera – prickly, stubborn and sharp as a tack – isn’t about to let him off that easily.

As an overnight couch-surf turns into an extended stay, 4000 Miles unearths a surprising commonality between these two generations in this emotionally compelling drama.

With disarming frankness and surprising candour, the two negotiate social potholes and trace emotional fault lines that link them to a painful family history.

From one of America’s brightest playwrights, this outstanding play explores the funny, frustrating, and ultimately life-changing relationship between a grandson learning to face his life, and a grandmother who is starting to forget hers.

Tickets are $38 for adults, $32 for SCvip Members, $34 for concessions, $25 for people 25 years and under and just $16 for school groups.

Book early to avoid disappointment as there is only one performance. To book tickets, please call the Lake Kawana Community Centre box office on 5413 1400, or visit www.scvenuesandevents.com.au

The Coolum Civic Centre is located next to the Coolum Library within Jack Morgan Park on Park Street (off David Low Way) in Coolum.

There is no onsite box office at Coolum Civic Centre prior to the event, however you will be able to collect tickets from the venue from 6:30pm on the night of the show.

Review

If your heart is sick or just needs warming, go and see this play. If you are a baby boomer who doesn't understand your grandchildren or are from Gen Y and, are like, really weirded out by your grandparents, go and see this play. If you simply love theatre, go and see this play. John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald.
