    Major Community Grants and Environment Levy Grants are now open Our community groups do amazing work across the region to make the Sunshine Coast a great place to live, work and play. Your council’s Community Grants Program provides advice and funding support to not-for-profit groups for one-off projects, events and activities that benefit the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area. The next round of council’s Major Grants (all categories), Minor Grants (Event category only) and Environment Levy Grants are open now and close on Monday, September 3, 2018.     New school for Baringa I was really pleased to recently attend the official opening of the remarkable new model Baringa State Primary School by the Queensland Premier. Since the year’s commencement, just over six months ago the State’s first science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) school welcomed more than 320 students. The opening showcase performed by the students was a real credit to the schools leadership team, entire staff, parents and students of the school and it showed just how passionate they are about this next generation facility.

    Horizon Festival 2018 program unveiled This is a very exciting time for the Sunshine Coast with the Horizon Festival about to kickoff. Council recently unveiled an impressive 2018 program catering to the popular, emerging and experimental genres. There’s so much variety in the program this year - you can dip your toes in, or really immerse yourself and step outside your comfort zone. There are free and ticketed events across the region, visit the website www.horizonfestival.com.au to view the full program and plan your days across the 10 day festival.     I am pleased to see that modification works to the lane marking and traffic signals to accommodate bike lanes and improve traffic flow were recently completed at the Bellara Drive intersection with Nicklin Way, Currimundi. Green cycle lane markings on Boram and Bluebell Streets are also due to be completed in the coming months.
