The Sunshine Coast Airport proudly welcomes the arrival of a Catalina flying boat for a short overnight visit tomorrow Friday 5 December on its journey back home from Portugal.

Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said the unexpected change in the flying boat’s itinerary home, means that it will now land at this airport instead of landing at Caloundra airport.

“It’s on its way from Portugal to Sydney thanks to the hard work and dedication of a group of patriotic Australians honouring the memory of our heroic airmen who served and/or lost their lives in WWII,” Peter Pallot said.

“They purchased it in Portugal with the plan to restore it to its wartime configuration as one of only two flying Catalinas in Australia, and the first to be operated from both land and water.

The Catalina will depart on Saturday morning to continue its journey. Please visit www.catalinaflying.org for the history of the project, and the full itinerary of the Catalina’s homebound journey. Please note there are changes listed below to some of the information on the website.
