Sunshine Coast Libraries have collaborated with local author and illustrator Philip Bunting to create a new Kids Only library membership card. The card features the Pythonidae Bookmunchii Sunnycoastius, aka the Common Bookeater Python.
Philip Bunting is an author and illustrator based on the Sunshine Coast. Growing up in the English Lake District and moving to Australia in his early 20’s, Philip developed a deep fondness for Australian wildlife and landscape. He is a firm believer in reading to your child from a young age and the benefits it has on their development.
Philip’s books have been translated into multiple languages and published in over 25 countries around the world. Since his first book was published in 2017, Philip has received many accolades, including Honours from the Children’s Book Council of Australia. He was also nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2018. Four of his latest titles appear on this year’s Children’s Book Council notable list for Picture book of the year.
His title Give me some Space! has been selected as the Australian Library and Information’s National Simultaneous Storytime book for 2021. In keeping with the theme, this title has already journeyed to space and is currently housed in the International Space station. On Wednesday 19 May at 11am, Astronaut Shannon Walker will be beamed across Australia reading this title.
Sunshine Coast Libraries Kids Only cards have starred characters from well known children’s books since 2008. The cards have been created with the firm belief that every child needs a Library card. As the first official document a child possesses, the card gives them access to thousands of resources to explore to learn, dream and imagine.
Library membership is free! Bring your children in for a visit over the April school holidays to join up to get their very own Kids Only card.
Reserve Philip Bunting's books and collect them from your local library.
