Sunshine Coast Bike Week is about to roll around with council hosting nine days of cycling activities and workshops – both day and night – across the region from October 13-21.
This year’s schedule includes events ranging from introductory mountain bike rides for adults and kids, social pathway rides and bike maintenance workshops, to water cycling, a night trail ride and even a movie night.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said Sunshine Coast Bike Week was council’s annual celebration of all things cycling.
“Bike Week inspires people of all ages and abilities to get into the saddle by offering a great range events,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“This year we’ve welcomed Water Resist to the fold for the first time offering aqua cycling classes at local pools in Buderim, Caloundra and Maroochydore.
“With summer quickly approaching, aqua cycling sounds like the best of both worlds to me.”
“We have our regular clubs and organisations with us again, including Sunshine Coast Environment Council, Cycling Queensland, Bicycle Centre Caloundra, Giant Sunshine Coast and council’s own TravelSmart team who will be holding free workshops across the week.”
View the full list of participating outlets and events on council’s website and contact the organiser to register for each individual workshop or event.
Anyone who registers and participates in any Bike Week activity will have the chance to win one of four $500 bike shop vouchers. There is one entry in the draw for every event attended.
This year Sunshine Coast Bike Week also includes National Ride to Work Day on Wednesday, October 17.
Council will host its annual celebration of Ride to Work Day at Cotton Tree Park that morning from 7am to 9am.
If you’re in the area on your way to work, enjoy a light breakfast of smoothies and muffins, get a bike safety check and there will be more opportunities to win prizes for riding and registering.
Ride to Work Day participants have up until 5pm on October 17 to register to go into the draw for the huge prize of $1000 bike voucher.
