A new chapter (and a new look) for Maroochydore Library
  • Wednesday 07 August 2019

Sunshine Coast Council’s Maroochydore Library opened its doors on 6 August to unveil a contemporary and vibrant new look.

Division 8 Councillor Jason O’Pray said the library refresh was in line with library trends and provided an even more specialised and flexible environment for the community.

“Maroochydore Library is integral to our local community. Its members and visitors have eagerly awaited the opening and I’m pleased to say these improvements were worth the wait,” Cr O’Pray said.

“The new-look library celebrates the local landscape by incorporating surf and ocean themes and using images of local landmarks. The design truly brings the space to life.

“The new ‘discovery layout’ is also likely to be a hit with the Maroochydore community. We adopted a similar approach for our upgrades to Coolum and Beerwah libraries, and found that library staff have more time on the floor and this creates a better customer experience.

“Our staff really do enjoy helping people find information or their next read.

“With these enhancements, it’s fair to say that Maroochydore Library is now an even better place to enjoy while reading the newspaper or your favourite book.”

Councillor O’Pray said the makeover had rejuvenated the much-loved library.

“We’ve updated all the usual things like shelving and seating but we’ve also completely updated the children’s areas with some great features. The children’s area has special seating and reading nooks to encourage youngsters to settle in, snuggle up and lose themselves in the pages of a good book,” Cr O’Pray said.

“This lovely feature was possible thanks to the generosity of The Friends of Maroochydore Library who raised the funds through book sales.

“We’re also grateful to the Friends for helping council staff to plan the new look library.

“Over the past 16-years, the Friends of Maroochydore Library have raised over $100,000 – what a sterling effort!”

“I hope the community loves the new look Maroochydore Library as much as we do.”
