Threats to sea turtles

Plastic - the waste that nature cannot digest. Millions of tonnes of rubbish enter the worlds oceans each year killing marine mammals and seabirds.

Of all the animals on our planet, perhaps none are under more threat from light pollution than sea turtles.

Foxes are recognised as a serious threat to much of Australia's wildlife - not only turtle eggs and hatchlings.

Discarded fishing line kills wildlife. Take care when fishing, don't leave behind discarded fishing lines and use non-stainless steel hooks.

Lost and abandoned fishing gear, including "ghost nets" pose a major threat to marine animals when they become entangled in the gear and drown or die of exhaustion or starvation.

Because of their endangered status and their wide range, sea turtles are of particular concern in an oil spill event.
