Project overview
The Sunshine Coast Stadium Expansion will allow us to attract more high calibre events and bring significant economic benefit to the region.
The Sunshine Coast community is passionate about sport, entertainment and lifestyle.
With a population of more than 330,000 people, and the second highest forecast population growth rate in Queensland through to 2041, we have an ambition to develop a stadium that will have the capacity to stage international and national sporting, recreational and entertainment events.
An enhanced stadium is a ‘missing piece’ of the core economic and community infrastructure mix for a region of our size and its projected growth.
The region has already demonstrated the ability to attract and host major events. We've enjoyed events such as the NRL fixtures and the Sir Elton John concerts.
The stadium expansion will allow us to attract more high calibre events and bring significant economic benefit to the region.
The main features of the project will involve the expansion of the current western grandstand and development of a new eastern grandstand.
Budget
- The expansion has an estimated cost of $68 million.
- Council and local philanthropists have committed $28 million.
- The Queensland Government has committed $20 million.
- The remaining $20 million is being sought from the Australian Government.
