RideScore Active Schools

An innovative initiative designed to incentive and reward students for choosing active travel options

RideScore Active Schools

RideScore Active Schools is dedicated to fostering healthier and more active school environment on the Sunshine Coast.

Our program aims to encourage students to adopt active travel options, such as riding or scooting to and from school.

What’s RideScore?

RideScore is an innovative initiative designed to incentive and reward students for choosing active travel options. By participating in RideScore, students contribute to a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their communities, all while earning points and recognition for their efforts.

Council and We Ride Australia are partnering together to trial the RideScore program in eleven Sunshine Coast schools, expecting the participation of approximately 1,500 children.

Initially supported by a Federal grant from the Move it AUS program, Queensland Government and Stockland, this program continues to be funded by Council’s Transport Levy.

How does RideScore works?

Participating schools receive access to our user-friendly platform, where students can log their daily trips to school. The RideScore App uses personal sensors that send real-time notifications to parents/carers on the arrival and departure of students riding and scooting to and from school. Individual trips are recorded and rewarded at certain milestones.

Parents/carers of children attending the 11 participating schools will have the opportunity to register online. Upon registration, participating students will receive a personal sensor (beacon) to attach to their bicycle or scooter. The school’s bicycle storage facility is fitted with a Bluetooth reader that detects the signal from the sensor, triggering an immediate notification to the nominated contact when the student arrived at, or departed the school gate.

Data is collected by the online platform, so that incentives can be offered at certain milestones.

In addition to the digital platform, activities are planned throughout the school year to promote and encourage active travel to and from school.
