RADF Guidelines and Factsheet

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

RADF 2018/19 priorities

Applications must demonstrate how the project will directly benefit the arts ecology in the Sunshine Coast local government area.  Applications will be assessed with consideration of the Sunshine Coast Arts Plan.

Goals:

  • Local artists and artistic content is developed and celebrated
  • Arts audiences and creative opportunities flourish through investment and development
  • Dedicated network of places and spaces for artists to connect, create and collaborate [physical and virtual]
  • Art and creativity is embedded in the identify and experience of the Sunshine Coast

The RADF guidelines[507KB] and RADF fact sheet [1052KB]should be read in conjunction with council's Sunshine Coast Arts Plan 2018 - 2038[3502KB].

Strategies including:

  • build the profile and recognition of local artists
  • build the capacity of local artists
  • support artists to test, develop and realise ideas
  • foster opportunities for the creation and promotion of First Nations artistic endeavours
  • support diverse arts experiences
  • develop and engage audiences and participation
  • identify new and expanded markets for creative content
  • support a strong network of local artists to foster broader connection and collaboration both within the arts sector and across sectors
  • build on the reputation of the Sunshine Coast a place where arts and culture flourish and inspire

 Applications will also be assessed with the following considerations:

Artistic merit           

  • vision, ideas and conceptual rationale
  • level of experimentation or risk-taking
  • clear articulation of creative process
  • contribution to diverse cultural expression
  • contemporary in approach or practice
  • evidence and quality of work

Viability

  • skills and ability of artists/arts professionals involved
  • realistic and achievable planning and resource use including clear budget
  • role of partners, including confirmation of involvement
  • adherence to relevant cultural protocols
  • regional relevance and evidence of demand
  • clear marketing or engagement approach where relevant

Guidelines

Before applying you must read the RADF guidelines[507KB] to ensure:

  • you and your project meet the eligibility criteria
  • you are applying to the correct category
  • you understand the principles of the program and what support material is required.

 Who can apply for RADF funding?

  • Individual emerging and established artists,producers and creative practitioners
  • Businesses
  • Not for profit organisations

Applicants must:

  • reside or be based in the Sunshine Coast local government area or if based outside the local government area; demonstrate how the project will directly benefit residents in the Sunshine Coast
  • be Australian citizens or permanent residents
  • hold appropriate insurance
  • have met all acquittal conditions of previous council grants

Who cannot apply?

Applications cannot be made by:

  • government agencies or departments of state or federal government
  • educational, religious or medical organisations, where the application is for the organisation’s core business
  • individuals where the application is for content directly related to educational coursework, study or research

Funding is not available for projects that:

  • start before application is submitted
  • include entertainment for events without a specific developmental outcome for artists
  • are to fund a competition, a prize or an eisteddfod
  • provide majority funding for publishing and/or printing costs
  • seek costs of purchase of capital items eg.equipment, buildings or vehicles
  • seek ongoing operational expenses
  • seek support for content directly related to educational coursework, study or research

Application Process

Applying for a RADF grant is a three stage process.

  1.  Speak to the RADF Liaison Officer
  2. Complete and submit an online EOI at least five working days prior to application closing date for consideration in that round
  3. Approved EOI’s will be invited to submit a full online application by the round closing date

** EOI’s are not required for Individual Development grants.   RADF will not fund 100% of your project, therefore co-funding is required.

Sources could include:

  • applicant cash contributions
  • grants from other funding bodies
  • fundraising, sponsorship and partnership contributions
  • in-kind support.

Key dates

There are three RADF funding rounds per year.  All grants categories are available in each round.
Application closing dates

  • 1 March
  • 1 July
  • 1 November

Applying

All RADF grant applications are completed online. A link to the online application form will be provided by the RADF Liaison Officer. Council does not guarantee that your application will be successful.
