COVID-19 Community Grants and Funding Support

From March 2020, council observed the impacts COVID-19 and associated national public health directions had on local not-for-profit community organisations.

Council designed a suite of grant and funding support measures in response to the declared Disaster Situation, in line with community need, as it evolved.

Council's Local Community Relief Plan - COVID-19 (April 2020), guided efforts to support community organisations in continuing their services and maintaining business continuity through response and into recovery.

Emergency Grants - (Applications Open)

Existing program criteria was expanded to include broader costs related to a declared Disaster Situation. The maximum funding amount was increased from $2000 to $3000.

During a declared Disaster Situation, such as COVID-19, Emergency Grants may assist where not-for-profit organisations:

  • have costs that are having a significant impact on the organisation's ability to continue to operate
  • have costs that are meeting the significant community need created by the disaster
  • are experiencing financial hardship, in which case, operational expenditure will be eligible.

COVID-19 Community Response Grants - (Applications Closed)

These grants offered targeted financial assistance to community organisations impacted by COVID-19. The round closed 1 June 2020.  

Community Partnership Funding Program - (Applications Closed)

Existing partners in this program, who had been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, had the opportunity to apply for a once-off funding boost. Applications closed 22 February 2021.

Sport Field Maintenance Funding Program – (Applications Closed)

Existing partners in this program, who had been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, had the opportunity to access a once-off funding boost. Applications closed 30 April 2021.

Major Grants co-funding relief - (no longer applicable)

Ordinary co-funding requirements were temporarily reduced in 2020/21 to recognise how difficult community group fundraising was at that point in time.

Flexible approach to project variations.

In addition to the suite of financial support initiatives offered, a flexible approach was taken to requested project variations for previously funded projects and events, where there was a COVID-19 imapct.
