Migrant Learn to Swim and Beach Safe Program

Spending time at the beach and taking part in water-based activities is very popular on the Sunshine Coast. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy our wonderful lifestyle. Royal Life Saving Society Queensland, Surf Life Saving Queensland and council have partnered together to bring free learn to swim and beach safety awareness sessions to migrant residents on the Sunshine Coast.

Migrant residents and better understand beach safety are invited to attend. The program includes ten weeks of water safety and swimming lessons and one beach safe session.

Program conditions

To be eligible for the program you must be:

  • a resident of the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area
  • from a migrant background
  • available to attend the full ten week Take the Plunge learn to swim sessions
  • available to attend one On the Same Wave Beach Safe Program.

Learn to swim sessions

Take the Plunge is a ten week course for migrants wanting to learn to swim and improve their swimming ability. There are two types of courses designed to suit your needs. Each participant receives a free welcome pack including goggles and cap.

The next round of sessions for the learn to swim program will start in February 2020.

Registrations for the February 2020 sessions will open in January 2020.

Migrants Take the Plunge

Who: Migrant women, men and children over the age of ten
Where: Nambour Aquatic Centre and Caloundra Aquatic Lifestyle Centre
When: Commencing Saturday 1 February 2020.

Women Take the Plunge

Who: Migrant women-only
Where: Goodlife Community Centre, Buderim
Where: Commencing on Saturday 1 February 2020.

On the Same Wave Beach Safe Program

Learn beach safety awareness in a program targeting migrant individuals delivered by specifically-trained Surf Life Saving Queensland lifeguards.

Each participant must attend at least one On the Same Wave Beach Safe Program session over the course of the Migrant Learn to Swim and Beach Safe Program.
