Council aims to be a leader in First Nations’ engagement, while nurturing a shared future that embraces culture, heritage and diversity.

According to the ABS Census in 2016, 3,464 persons identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived in Maroochy Indigenous Location (Sunshine Coast region). This represents 1.9% of the total resident population.

Council's First Nations Partnerships team focuses on four key areas:

  • First Nations economic development 
  • First Nations knowledge

  • environment.

The team incorporates the First Nations values of:

  • story
  • community.
