In April 2016, council invited property owners and business owners in the Maroochydore Revitalisation Association (MRA) Precinct to have their say on a proposal to introduce a Special Benefit Area Levy to fund the continuation of activation and revitalisation initiatives in the MRA Precinct as outlined in the Economic Development Plan (EDP).
Council is still considering information and advice on the introduction of the proposed special benefit area levy before making its final determination.
The feedback provided by stakeholders through the recent consultation process is valued and appreciated. A summary of the feedback is presented below:
- Two-thirds of survey respondents answered ‘yes’ to the question ‘Do you believe that the work of the MRA benefits property values and trade in the MRA precinct?’
- Two thirds of survey respondents answered ‘yes’ to the question ‘Do you think that those who benefit from the work of the MRA should contribute to the cost?’
- The third question sought to determine the level of support for the preferred calculation basis for the proposed levy - 40% of respondents answered ‘yes’ indicating support for how the proposed levy would be calculated.
- Comments provided by ‘no’ respondents suggest a level of support for a financial contribution with differing views on categories of properties to be levied and the boundaries for the described precinct.
Further advice will be available in mid 2016.
