Council is proud to partner with Telstra to deliver the Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards 2020 exclusively to high schools within the Sunshine Coast Council local government area.

The Awards aim to encourage innovation, and/or a creative or new use of technology. This could be a new app, new concepts in social media or new gaming technology. The innovation could be a revolutionary new idea for transport, health, agriculture, security, conservation, construction or recreation. Existing technology could also be used in a novel way to solve a community, environmental or business challenge. The endless possibilities for innovation are makes these awards so exciting!

The Awards are open to students from years 10 to 12 in teams of up to three, from high schools located in the Sunshine Coast local government area in 2019. There is no limit to the number of teams that can enter from each school.

Phase one of the awards commences week 1, term 1. Teams will have over eight weeks to develop an original innovation or technological concept/solution. Entries for phase one of the competition will close 2 April 2020.

An evaluation panel will review all entries and shortlist twelve finalist teams. These will be announced by 21 April 2020.

During phase two, teams have four weeks to develop their original idea as a proof of concept. During this phase, students will attend four mentoring sessions where they will have the opportunity to be coached by a range of entrepreneurs and industry experts. Video submissions for phase two of the competition close 7 June 2020. An evaluation panel will review the entries and allocate scores based on the award criteria set out in the terms and conditions.

The final stage of the competition is the live pitch and awards ceremony which will be held on 16 June 2020. The 12 finalist teams will present their ideas or concepts in a live pitch to the evaluation panel. Final scores for this presentation will then be allocated, and the winner of Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards will be announced.
