2018 Australia Day Awards

The 2018 Australia Day Award nominations will open on Friday 15 September and close on Monday 4 December 2017. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday 25 January 2018 at The Events Centre, Caloundra (invitation only). The Recipients Breakfast will be held on Wednesday 7 February 2018 in an invitation only event. 

Nominations will be sought for the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Community - group or organisation
  • Environment & Sustainability
  • Creative
  • Sport & Recreation

Design the 10th anniversary Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards trophy

If you're a local artist with a talent for award design, a wonderful opportunity is now available to design the prestigious 2018 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards trophy.

Each year council is honoured to present our Australia Day Award recipients with a unique trophy to recognise their achievements and outstanding contribution to the community. Talented local artists are invited to create trophies that are works of art that will be treasured by Australia Day Award recipients for a lifetime.

Trophy Design Brief

Timeline

 Judging Panel assessment

 October  Selection announcement and production phase begins
 November  Production phase and progress review 
 December  Production phase and progress review
 January  Final product delivered to council by 12 January 2018

Eligibility

Design submissions are open to local artists from the Sunshine Coast Council local government area. There is no submission fee and a limit of two design submissions per person. your design must be your original work and you must have copyright of the design.

Scope

Eight (8) trophies - seven (7) as per the categories, with one spare:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Community - group or organisation
  • Creative
  • Environment & Sustainability
  • Sport & Recreation 

Theme

Any of the following themes can be represented but not limited to:

  • Australia, Queensland, Sunshine Coast
  • Community spirit
  • Environmental
  • 10th Anniversary

Materials

Please note that each trophy will require space for an engraving plaque produced by council to be applied. The plaque size can be variable. It will have the Sunshine Coast Council logo, category sponsor logo, Award Year logo, text over two lines, category and a recipient name. 

Trophies may be the same or each trophy might differ e.g. colour.

Considerations:

  • Size - should not exceed 30cm (l) x 30cm (w) x 30cm (h)
  • Weight - should be able to be held comfortably with one hand
  • Quality of finish, durability and longevity

 Submission

Artists wishing to apply are asked to email events@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au by COB Monday 4 September 2017 with the following:

  • A CV and contact details - phone, email
  • 2018 Australia Day Award design concept. Designs can be drawings, digital designs, photographs, mock-ups or 3D models. File formats; PDF, JPEG, (300dpi)
  • Production schedule
  • Production cost estimates for eight trophies
