Whatever your leaning, there's a horse ride for you

The Sunshine Coast is a part of Australia that has much to offer horse riding adventurers of all types.

To enjoy riding on a dedicated horse path head to Bli Bli and the Parklands Conservation Park. Here you will find the Up Hill Horse Ride. There are some mountain biking shared trails to begin with before you get to the designated horse trails, then you are all set.

For a horse ride trail with a great view head to Clear View Drive in Tewantin's National Park up the hill from Tewantin, part way towards Cooroy. You'll see the sea! You can also head to Point Glorious Lookout west of Eumundi for gorgeous views of the undulating valleys and hills of the Sunshine Coast.

  • Weyba Downs: Weyba Lake foreshore ride - gently descent from the heights of Weyba Downs via a shady forestry path to the lake.
  • Mooloolah: Ewen Maddock Dam - four circuits of tall trees, ferns, birds, cascades, waterfalls and picturesque mountain scenery.
  • Landsborough: Dularcha Rail Trail Tunnel - a heritage listed train tunnel is quite an experience.

If you enjoy cantering along the beach and swimming your horse in the surf then head to the Noosa North Shore, the only place on the Sunshine Coast where beach horse riding is permitted. Ride from the mouth of the Noosa River to the Teewah township. It's only 11 km one way, 22 km return. You can also do a shorter 10 km loop.

For serious time in the saddle try the Noosa Trail Network in the Noosa Hinterland. It has 8 trails with parts 2 and 3 across Kin Kin, Cooran, Pomona and Lake MacDonald making a 40 km circuit. Further south, the 25,000 hectare Beerburrum State Forest has an extensive network of tracks and five trail heads.
