Sustainable events on the Sunshine Coast

Supporting event organisers to take an active role to deliver more sustainable events on the Sunshine Coast

Sustainable events on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is a vibrant and active community, with over 600 events held annually.

Together we can reduce the environmental impact of events across our region to deliver a positive experience for attendees.

When planning an event, take the time to consider which sustainable area to include. The most important thing is to start with at least one change. Then, event by event, build on your previous action and introduce new ones.

From 1 September 2021 the Queensland Government banned some single-use plastic items in taking action to fight plastic waste and pollution.

The following single-use plastic items cannot be supplied:

  • Straws
  • Drink stirrers
  • Cutlery
  • Bowls and plates
  • Expanded polystyrene takeaway food containers and cups.

For more information, see the single use plastic poster[4112KB].

This guide is divided in sections with quick links for more information and resources.

Let’s begin by focusing on one (or all) and make a start. Don’t forget to set outcomes that are achievable for everyone.
