Creative Spaces Sunshine Coast takes around twelve residencies per year at four different spaces. These residencies are generally seasonal, and assigned at least one month ahead. Residencies are open to any artist who is interested in developing their work.
As part of the Creative Spaces Artist in Residence program you will have the opportunity to connect with other artists and participate in mentoring and peer dialogue through our 'space travel' program. This program includes one-on-one and a group session with highly respected local and national mentors.
Currently there are one and three month residencies available on the coast.
An amount of $2000 is available to support your residency as a contribution towards artist fees, materials and other expenses. Successful artists will be expected to work collaboratively with Creative Spaces to promote, document and potentially contribute to a public outcome such as workshop, exhibition, or artist talk.
There are two residencies available for one month. They are located at:
- The Lock Up, 4 First Avenue Maroochydore. The Lock Up is down the road from Cotton Tree beach. With a coffee shop on site, this unusual, light space is an unexpected studio. Lock yourself in a cell or take advantage of the larger, open plan room. You can create large scale works or spill outside into an undercover carport with steps, forming a small ampitheatre.
- The Arts and Ecology Centre, 51 Palm Creek Rd, Tanawha. The Arts and Ecology Centre is a unique creative studio and workshop venue set in the beautiful Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden. This tranquil and contemporary venue offers a multipurpose room, a wet and a dry workshop surrounded by informal outdoor gardens.
Submit your application for a one-month residency online. Submissions close at 4.00pm on 21 September. Applicants will be notified of the outcome within four weeks of the closing date.
There is one residency available for three months located at: The Crows Nest, Bradman Ave, Maroochydore
Perched atop the Maroochy Sailing Club, the Crows Nest is a small space with views out across the Maroochy River towards Mt Coolum. Situated on beautiful Chambers Island, accessed via a footbridge, this creative studio could be yours, free for up to three months.
The space would suit writers, digital and fine artists and creatives with a lighter footprint. It can accommodate one person looking for inspiration and solitude or a collective of two looking to collaborate in paradise.
Submit your application for a three-month residency online. You will be notified within 4 weeks of each seasonal residency commencing of the outcome.
