Council has resolved to conduct a Biosecurity Program in accordance with Section 240 of the Biosecurity Act 2014, within the whole of the Sunshine Coast region to educate, monitor or issue biosecurity orders in relation to invasive biosecurity matter (prohibited or restricted invasive plants).
Emphasis will be placed on inspecting the localities of Balmoral Ridge, Diamond Valley, Mooloolah Valley, Beerwah, Mt Mellum, Bells Creek, Crohamhurst, North Maleny, Mons, Tanawha, Forest Glen, Maroochy River, Bli Bli, Peachester, Montville and Mapleton.
Properties over 4000 square meters will be inspected in the above localities on a proactive basis.
Individual properties also previously known to harbour invasive biosecurity matter (prohibited or restricted invasive plants) will be surveyed for ongoing compliance.
This Biosecurity Program will commence 9 August 2019 to 31 July 2020.
The purpose and scope for the program is:
(a) monitoring compliance with the Act in relation to a particular matter to which the Act applies;
(b) confirming the presence, or finding out the extent of the presence, in the State or the parts of the State to which the program applies, of the biosecurity matter to which the program relates;
(c) confirming the absence, in the State or the parts of the State to which the program applies, of the biosecurity matter to which the program relates;
(d) monitoring the effects of measures taken in response to a biosecurity risk;
(e) monitoring compliance with requirements about prohibited matter or restricted matter;
(f) monitoring levels of biosecurity matter or levels of biosecurity matter in a carrier.
These inspections will be conducted on urban and rural properties within the Sunshine Coast.
