Express your interest for Kids in Action 2019.

2019 has been declared by UNESCO as the international Year of Indigenous Languages. In recognition of this, the proposed 2019 theme is Connecting to Country: Celebrating nature’s icons. In this theme schools will be encouraged to choose a native species (flora or fauna) that is significant to their school and research that species with a large focus on building ecological literacy through learning from indigenous spiritual connections to country. Through detailed observations of their iconic species and a deep understanding of the role that species play in the broader ecosystem, it is hoped students will develop an ethic of care and connection to their place. In essence students will be learning to become worthy custodians of country.

Day 1 - Friday 10 May 2019: Kids in Action Environmental Projects Day (Venue to be confirmed)

The Environmental Projects Day engages students in education and citizen science activities. It will encourage them to feel like informed, confident and capable citizens able to combat challenges and actively protect their environment. The day also provides an opportunity to become acquainted with community mentors, to provoke ideas, and to stimulate interest in the 2019 Kids in Action conference theme.

Day 2 - Wednesday 11 September 2019: Kids in Action Conference - Lake Kawana Community Centre

The Kids in Action Conference encourages students to learn from each other, through workshops, displays and performances. We want to increase our students' environmental knowledge and understanding of local environmental issues. The conference encourages students to take responsibility for their learning through the planning and delivery of environmental projects.

Term 4 - Kids in Action Road Show - Following the Kids in Action Conference, winners of the Kid’s Choice presentation awards will be invited to take their presentations on the road and share their environmental message with other schools.
