2018 Environment and Liveability Photography Award Terms and Conditions

The following TERMS AND CONDITIONS apply to all entries:

  1. The Promoter of the 2018 Sunshine Coast Environment and Liveability Photography Awards (the “awards” or “competition”) is the Sunshine Coast Council.
  2. Entry is open to all Australian residents living in Australia except for employees of the Sunshine Coast Council and members of the judging panel. A $25 entry fee applies to residents who reside outside the Sunshine Coast Local Government area.
  3. An entrant must be an individual and not a company or organisation.
  4. Entrants under 18 years of age must have the consent of their parent or guardian to enter.
  5. Entries must be the original, unaided work of the entrant, executed within the two years prior to the entry closing date.
  6. Entries must be submitted in JPG, JPEG and PNG format. Entrants may submit colour or black and white images.
  7. Entries must be a minimum file size of 1MB and a maximum file size of 50MB.
  8. No third party or commercial gallery may enter a photograph on behalf of an entrant.
  9. Entries representing partnerships between individuals will be accepted as one entry and on the understanding that each partner’s contribution is deemed equal.
  10. The Competition opens at 8.30am Wednesday 9 March 2018 and closes at midnight Friday 14 May 2018 (“Competition Period”). Any entry received after the expiry of the Competition Period will be deemed invalid.  No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries.
  11. Information on how to enter the competition and prizes form part of these entry terms.
  12. The prizes will be: Open category, $2,500 first prize, $1,000 runner up, and $500 highly recommended (up to 4). Senior student category, $700 (gift voucher) first prize and $200 (gift voucher) runner up. Junior student category, $500 (gift voucher) first prize and $100 (gift voucher) runner up. People's choice $1000 prize.
  13. Entries will not be returned by the Promoter.
  14. An official entry form must be completed by each entrant.  The digitally submitted entry form is evidence of the entrants consent to these Terms and Conditions.
  15. A maximum of three (3) images submitted by any one entrant.
  16. A brief artist statement of up to 30 words is mandatory to describe submitted image.
  17. Images that were previously entered into the 2016 Environment Photography Awards and 2015 Sunshine Coast Art Prize Landscape and Wildlife Award will not be accepted.
  18. Images should have been taken executed within the two years prior to the entry closing date.
  19. All images must be captured within the Sunshine Coast Council Local Government Area boundaries.  Please refer to Queensland Local Government Maps for boundary confirmation.
  20. Entries must not contain any material that is offensive, defamatory, discriminating, obscene, indecent, harassing or threatening or is otherwise unlawful. Any entry that at the absolute discretion of the Council, is deemed to be offensive, discriminatory, defamatory, obscene, indecent, harassing or threatening, will immediately be disqualified from the Competition.  The Council’s decision in relation to any aspect of the Competition is final.  No correspondence and/or discussion will be entered into.
  21. Entrants are permitted to use post processing (e.g. Photoshop and similar software) on images. Minimum dimension of 612 pixels along both sides of the images required and 72DPI is acceptable.
  22. The entrant must have the written, signed and dated permission of any people appearing in the image submitted. The entrant must be able to produce evidence of permission from subject if requested during the judging process.
  23. Entrants submitting an entry for the junior or senior award, must be enrolled in either Secondary or Primary school at the time of entry. 
  24. Entries will be assessed by a panel of judges selected by the Promoter. The decisions of the judging panel are final and no correspondence and or communication of any kind in relation to the panels’ decision will be entered into.  The judging panel is under no obligation to award a prize in any category. 
  25. Entrants agree that by entering they authorise the promoter to use, reproduce and/or exhibit images entered into the Competition for the purpose of advertising and promoting the competition and/or other Sunshine Coast Council documents, activities, programs and events.  The images may be reproduced in any medium.  The Promoter is not required to pay a fee to use, reproduce or exhibit any images entered in the Competition. Artists will be acknowledged with all published images. If the photograph is selected as winner of the first prize, the entrant will enter an agreement to issue license to the Sunshine Coast Council for a period of three years.  The artist will retain the right to use the image for the purpose of promoting their work and achievements on their website or other promotional collateral. All expenses incurred in the submission of the entry are the responsibility of the applicant. 
  26. Entrants warrant in submitting an image, that it is their original work and does not violate or infringe (or reasonably be expected to violate or infringe) upon the legal rights of any other person, including material which is protected by copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights. Entrants must not engage in any unlawful or improper conduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the Competition. By entering the competition each entrant (or where the entrant is a minor, then the parent or guardian) indemnifies the Sunshine Coast Council against all loss, damage, costs (including legal costs) or liability whatsoever arising out of or in connection with the entrant’s breach of these terms and conditions.
  27. Sunshine Coast Council does not endorse any cloud storage service or warrant their effectiveness. Artists are responsible for any third party terms and conditions applicable when utilising third party service providers. A functional weblink to the entrants cloud storage allowing the selection panel immediate access to view the submitted photographs until at least June 2018, including any password required, must be included in the application. If judges are not able to access the files, the entry will not be eligible. Choosing the most appropriate service is the sole responsibility of the entrant.
