Providing a mass transit system is a long-term project that requires years of planning. Council has only ever been undertaking the planning and business case development work for this project so that the project could be positioned as investment ready for the State and Commonwealth Governments. Whatever mass transit solution is ultimately supported will be part of the SEQ public transport network and will be the responsibility of the State to deliver through its procurement, contractual and project management arrangements. However, council has continued to build its case to develop an integrated mass transit system to service the Sunshine Coast’s growing population.
That work has been ongoing since 2012 and has included:
- Community Strategy
- Mass Transit Interim Findings Report
- Mass Transit Options Analysis (being developed)
- Mass Transit Detailed Business Case* (subject to community consultation)
*If council endorses the options analysis, a detailed business case will be prepared in partnership with the Queensland Government, for completion in 2022. If found to be viable, the detailed business case will be provided to the State and Federal governments for funding consideration.
