The Maroochydore Intersections Upgrade Project requires extensive and regular changes to traffic conditions.
To minimise the impacts to road users, construction work on Aerodrome Road, First Avenue and Maud Street is being undertaken during the day and at night.
Safety is council's top priority. Please slow down, drive carefully and follow all traffic directions to help keep everyone safe, including construction and road workers.
Please note the following changes to traffic conditions in the project area.
Night works and road closures – commencing Wednesday 19 September 2018 for approximately two weeks (weather permitting)
Council will be laying the final layers of asphalt along Aerodrome Road and Maud Street as part of the Maroochydore Intersections Upgrade project.
This work needs to be undertaken at night and will result in the detouring of traffic away from the work area.
On Wednesday 19 September and Thursday 20 September 2018, and commencing Sunday 23 September until Thursday 27 September 2018 (weather permitting), between the hours of 6:30pm and 6.00am, the following road closures will be in place:
• Maud Street, between Aerodrome Road and Bungama Street – traffic will be detoured along Bungama Street and Second Avenue.
• Maud Street, between Aerodrome Road and George Street – access to property along George Street (including the residential unit block on the corner of George and Maud Street) will be accessible via First Avenue and George Street.
• First Avenue, between Aerodrome Road and George Street – access to KFC and other businesses will be provided under traffic control.
Motorists needing to access any residential properties or businesses located within the work zone will be assisted by traffic controllers
Temporary change to pedestrian route - week commencing 22 January 2018
From 27 November 2017 until September/October 2018 (weather permitting), pedestrians wanting to cross the northern side of Aerodrome Road (to cross Maud Street) will be detoured to a temporary pedestrian crossing on Maud Street, situated to the north of the Aerodrome Road/ Maud Street intersection, adjacent to numbers 9 and 10 Maud Street (opposite Unitywater).
This crossing will temporarily replace the signalised pedestrian crossing movement on the northern side of Aerodrome Road. All other pedestrian movements at this intersection will remain.
The large scale and long-term duration of this project, combined with high traffic volumes and frequent pedestrians and cyclist movements in the area, means that construction work is complex and challenging. Traffic movements and pedestrian pathways will be regularly adjusted, often at short notice.
The project team is liaising directly with affected businesses and residents to inform them of specific construction activities, timeframes and impacts. Weather and site conditions can impact on work schedules and are subject to change at any time.
Council thanks the community, particularly local businesses, for their patience during construction.
