‘events +’ equals big opportunities for business

The Sunshine Coast plays host to about 30 major and regional events each year which generate approximately $50 million towards the local economy.

In addition, event promoters and organisers spend approximately $2.5 million each year with local businesses which boosts the  Sunshine Coast economy.

Would your business like to grab your share? The events+ program can show you how.

An initiative of Sunshine Coast Council and the Sunshine Coast Events Board, events+ aims to help local businesses leverage major and regional events.

Campaign partners include Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ) , Channel 7, Mix FM and Sea FM.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said two-part MasterClasses (correct - one word cap M cap C) would be held across the region from February 10 and businesses should register immediately to secure their place.

“The Sunshine Coast presents unlimited opportunities for local businesses to capitalise on the massive influx of participants and patrons that major and regional events bring to our region,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“If we work together our community can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that builds our reputation as a host destination.

“The events+ program can provide businesses with the skills to take advantage of opportunities these big events offer.

“This program is part of Council’s economic development strategy and the Sunshine Coast Major and Regional Events Strategy (2013-2017), as we  strive to build a strong economy and create jobs.”

Sunshine Coast Events Board Chair Ralph Devlin said the events+ MasterClasses would show business operators how to actively promote and market their services more effectively to event participants.

“These classes are practical, hands-on sessions which provide knowledge, advice and tools for business operators and also encourage businesses to collaborate and focus on working together to achieve mutually successful outcomes,” Mr Devlin said.

The workshop includes a comprehensive toolkit and case studies revealing how local businesses have collaborated to achieve great results and demonstrating some simple initiatives local businesses can implement to start seeing some positive returns.

Tourism, Sports and Major Events portfolio councillor Jason O’Pray said while events+ focused on council-supported major events, the program would provide businesses with the skills to maximise opportunities during holiday seasons, public holidays and community activities.

“The events pot-of-gold is already right here on the Sunshine Coast and events+ is an opportunity for local businesses to grab their share, so get on board,” Cr O’Pray said.

The events+ MasterClasses will be held from February 10 in Coolum, Maleny, Caloundra, Maroochydore, and Mooloolaba. To find out more about joining the events+ campaign contact dtb Advertising on 5458 5600 or email eventsplus@dtb.com.au
