Works to Westaway Parade improving piece of Currimundi paradise

Need more incentive to visit the beautiful, popular coastal hub that is Currimundi Lake?

The Westaway Parade streetscape at Currimundi Lake – right outside the popular Coco’s Café – is set for a functional and visual makeover.

Sunshine Coast Council has allocated $65,000 for works to the intersection of Westaway Parade and Watson Street in Currimundi which will commence on 12 July and is scheduled to be completed by 11 August 2011 (weather permitting).

Division 3 Councillor Keryn Jones said the new landscaping upgrade would improve an already wonderful precinct.

"This beautiful area across the road from Currimundi Lake is already a thriving restaurant and watersports hub," she said.

"The new works will provide a significant improvement to the streetscape, replacing the bitumen and bollards with a landscaped area which will be pedestrian, bike and dog friendly.

"Crossing the road will also be safer, with a shorter distance for pedestrians to negotiate.

"Vehicle parking will be unaffected by the changes.

"I hope the community enjoys the improved streetscape."

The works will include a build-out of the existing pavement next to Coco’s Café. This extension will include:

  •  seating and sandstone wall;
  • drinking fountain;
  • dog bowl and dog-tie up hook;
  • shade trees and garden beds;
  • bicycle parking.
