Local students, photographers and composting gurus will take out the top prizes in council’s Local Government Week competitions tomorrow at a prize giving ceremony in Nambour.
Deputy Mayor Tim Dwyer will announce the winners and award prizes for the following competitions:
- Composting Competition: called for residents top composting and waste reduction tips and tricks.
- Amateur Photography Competition: Coast photographers were asked for submissions depicting social, economic and environmental sustainability.
- Sustainability Schools Challenge: primary school students had to make something innovative out of something that would normally be thrown away.
Entries from across the Coast were outstanding. Prizes include a private movie screening, worm farm workshops, compost bins, and over $2,000 in vouchers for Sunshine Coast stores.
The competitions were inspired by both council’s vision, ‘To be Australia’s most sustainable region — vibrant, green, diverse,’ and the Local Government Week theme, ‘Switched on Council’s, powering Queensland communities into sustainability’.
