A section of trees in the newly completed $1.2 million Buderim Village Park has recently become a target of vandals.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said replanting will be carried out by council to revegetate the area where the trees were cut down around 17 November.
“This damage is pointless and incredibly upsetting to those who have dedicated considerable time and effort over the past four years to provide this much needed district-level park for the Buderim community,” Cr Dickson said.
“Repairing vandalism diverts ratepayer money from other projects and is a shameful act that impacts on the whole community.
“The maximum penalty for acts of vandalism can be up to $93,500 for this type of offence along with the cost to council to repair the damage.
“Council has visited nearby businesses to see if anyone witnessed this act of vandalism and I am appealing to the community to remain alert, particularly at night as it is most likely this is when the damage was done.”
