The Brisbane Bombers may still be a few years away from getting a berth in the NRL – but its bid is already helping to attract some of the best rugby league players to the Coast.
Mayor Mark Jamieson has welcomed the news the Brisbane Bombers will be the presenting partner for trial game at Suncorp Stadium between the Storm and Bulldogs in Brisbane next year – with players to also visit the Sunshine Coast.
“We love our rugby league on the Sunshine Coast – and I’d like to thank the Brisbane Bombers for including us in this great initiative,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“The Sunshine Coast already hosts the eight-straight Queensland State of Origin team – and it’s good to see some clubs are lining up to get the same good luck rub off on them.
“The Storm and Bulldogs are two great teams and I know the Sunshine Coast will welcome them to the region.
“Their visits are a great promotion for the Sunshine Coast and once again reinforce what a fantastic place our region is to visit.”
The first pre-season Charity Cup will be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Sunday 23 February.
The Bulldogs will spend five days on the Sunshine Coast before heading south for the game – the Storm will come here after the match for their pre-season camp.
