Taming traffic at Moffat Beach
  • Friday 12 October 2012

Commuters can look forward to smoother travels through Moffat Beach.

Sunshine Coast Council will soon commence modifications to the intersection on Maltman Street North and Buccleugh Street that will reduce traffic delays.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said works would include line marking alterations as well as changes to the traffic light controller and vehicle detectors.

"The configuration of this intersection has caused traffic delays because vehicles in the right lane wanting to travel straight have triggered the right turn only phase at the traffic lights," he said.

"This has led to a bank up of traffic because often times the motorist at the front of the queue doesn’t wish to turn right so can’t go anywhere.

"I thank local motorists for bringing this issue to council’s attention so that we can address it properly and get this intersection functioning at its optimal level."

Work is likely to commence in late October. Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists while works are in progress.
