Sunshine Coast Council is coordinating a unique youth cultural exchange opportunity with its Sister City of Xiamen in the Fujian Province of the People’s Republic of China.

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said council has extended an invitation to the school community to participate in this youth cultural exchange tour.

“The exchange will provide memories of a lifetime, with students able to experience Chinese culture and lifestyle first-hand in one of the most desirable lifestyle regions in Mainland China,” Cr McKay said.

“Council is seeking nominations of students aged between 14 and 16 years to participate in this exchange.

“The cost per student participant is estimated to be $2500—which includes return economy class airfares, visa fee and travel insurance, two shirts and cap for each student, a gift pack for each student to provide gifts to other students and their home stay family.

“Council is also seeking expressions of interest from teachers to participate in the exchange as chaperones. Given it is proposed to limit the student participation numbers to 30 students, council will select up to three chaperones to participate in the program.”

Council is hosting an information session on Tuesday 12 November 6.30pm at Council Chambers, corner Currie and Bury Streets, Nambour.  Applications close on Thursday 21 November 2013 and further details about the exchange are on council’s webpage.
