Our region’s fashion industry will be in festive mode when the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary at The Events Centre, Caloundra this week (October 20 and October 21).
After starting with just 12 local labels in a poolside fashion show at Surfair Resort, SCFF is now one of Queensland’s most well-known fashion festivals.
Established in 2008, the event has grown from strength to strength incorporating catwalk shows, a trade lounge (pop up spaces with brands selling wholesale,) an industry Q & A, plus The Sunshine Coast Style Awards, the Sunshine Coast Design Awards and Hall of Fame.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said the SCFF was a great example of the diversity of events staged on the Sunshine Coast.
“The continued success of the SCFF demonstrates that the Sunshine Coast is home to a truly wide range of major events,” Cr O’Pray said
“The exposure for our local talent and brands showcased at SCFF is invaluable and we congratulate the organisers on the 10th anniversary milestone.”
Founder and director Jacinta Richmond said her vision was to shine a spotlight on Sunshine Coast labels while presenting national and international labels alongside local talent.
“With local, national and international labels involved, the event is recognised globally for its discovery of emerging talent and the opportunities for local brands to network with national and international established brands,” Ms Richmond said.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity for a select few emerging talent to showcase alongside established labels.”
Kat Hogg, founder and director of locally renowned Hive Swimwear, has showcased at SCFF since its inception in 2008.
“Hive swimwear has found it to be a very rewarding experience being involved with the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival,” Ms Hogg said.
“The SCFF has promoted the Hive label strongly across the Sunshine Coast and created a forum for new release.”
SCFF has developed a strong reputation for showcasing local modelling talent over the past 10 years, with many Coast models going on to find success in the global modelling arena.
Most recently Tayla Spier, who was the 2016 Festival’s Model Ambassador, was signed up by Milan modelling powerhouse.
Open to both industry and public, the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival offers an exciting, packed full 24 hours of fashion and style for its 10th year.
The SCFF is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council and is one of more than 55 major lifestyle, sporting and music events to be staged on the Sunshine Coast in 2017.
