Sunshine Coast Enterprises, formerly Caloundra City Enterprises, is set to extend valuable business support and development services across the region.
Economic development and council entrepreneurship portfolio councillor, Cr Lew Brennan, said the report defined the role for the company and outlined changes to the functions of SCE to align with council’s approach to economic development.
“Sunshine Coast Enterprises is best placed to deliver direct business support and advice services to the whole of the Sunshine Coast region,’ Cr Brennan said.
“It clearly defines the role of SCE as a direct delivery company of council, providing a range of services and advocacy to advance business interests of the region,” Cr Brennan said.
The report recommends that the work of SCE include facilitating and expanding business networks, business training and mentoring programs, working with industry clusters in line with council’s economic development strategy and helping to locate new businesses to the region.
“Council will continue to directly deliver economic development functions in addition to those services provided by SCE.
Council will develop and implement a regional strategy, collect and maintain key data to drive strategy development and evaluation, deliver major infrastructure development and continue to provide assistance to some start-up businesses.
The report’s recommendations were referred to the ordinary meeting on Thursday 16 July for full council consideration.
