It’s Sunshine Coast celebration time! Sunshine Coast Airport has hit the one million passenger mark – the first time this has been achieved in a 12-month period.
The milestone, 55 years in the making, continues an incredible period of growth and development for the region’s air traffic gateway.
Mayor Mark Jamieson welcomed the one million passengers achievement, saying it further highlighted the strong progress the airport had recently made.
“In the last 18 months, the airport has broken passenger growth record after record,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“We have consistently been the country’s fastest growing airport since the middle of last year.
“We have seen the return of Qantas to the Sunshine Coast, investment in capacity by Jetstar and Virgin Australia on Sydney and Melbourne routes, the continued growth in popularity of Air New Zealand services to Auckland, and the welcoming of Jetstar flights to Adelaide.
“Reaching one million passengers for the year is the pinnacle of that sustained growth and investment by the airlines in our region.”
Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said he was extremely proud of the record.
“It has been an amazing period for Sunshine Coast Airport. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of my fantastic team and thank our airline partners, our community, and our stakeholders for their ongoing support,” Mr Pallot said
“Each month, we continue to achieve new highs in passenger numbers, but to reach the million mark for the year is something extra special.”
Sunshine Coast Airport today released a short “Sunshine Coast celebration” video https://youtu.be/Vu--J96ZSLE recognising the strong partnership between the success of the airport and the region.
“We wanted to celebrate in Sunshine Coast style and what better way to do that than share the fun with some of our on and off-airport partners,” Mr Pallot said.
“Thank you Sunshine Coast, we couldn’t have done it without you!”
