Families across the Sunshine Coast can add another fun-filled attraction to their itinerary with the official opening of a new splash pad at council’s Coolum Aquatic Centre.
Just in time for the summer holidays, the new soft splash pad, including a spiral tunnel, water cannons, soaker buckets and spray fountain, was put to the test with hundreds of children attending the Inflatable Christmas Party on December 20.
Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said the splash pad was a welcome addition to the popular Coolum Aquatic Centre which is an important community facility.
“Since Swim Fit has been awarded another 10-year lease as ongoing managers of the site they have certainly become part of the community,” Cr Robinson said.
“Under the terms of their new lease, on behalf of the community I thank Swim Fit for their $280,000 investment to construct the new splash pad which will complement the existing facilities for all the community to enjoy.”
Coolum Aquatic Centre manager Nikolai Knudsen said it was important for Swim Fit to commit to investing in this facility which creates a fantastic environment for families to visit.
“We are very excited of deliver the 100 sq m soft play splash pad specifically designed for children aged one to nine years just in time for Christmas creating a fantastic environment for young families to visit,” he said.
“To add to the relaxing experience, we have also recently completed the refurbishment of the Coolum Aquatic Centre Café offering a new menu, tables and chairs for parents to meet for coffee while the kids enjoy the new facilities.
“We invited the community to celebrate the official opening by attending our Inflatable Christmas Party with giant inflatables, jumping castle, sausage sizzle and an appearance from Santa.”
Coolum Aquatic Centre is open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday from 5.30am-6:30pm, Saturday from 7am-5pm and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
