Six feathers, six great stories

Sunshine Coast Council hosted the inaugural Sunshine Coast Living Smart Glossies Awards tonight, rewarding six environmental champions for their contribution to the Coast’s sustainability.

Living Smart coordinator Jo Ferris said that the entries were outstanding in all categories.

“Being involved in this year’s Living Smart Awards has been an honour. I’ve spent the last few weeks going through some incredibly inspiring entries,” Ms Ferris said.

“There are people living on tiny town blocks growing fruits and vegetables on every square inch of land, teachers encouraging students to be active and healthy, and residents who are happily living here on the Sunshine Coast without air conditioning, because they have designed their homes not to need it.”

Winners received a “feather” trophy made from recycled aluminium car pistons, with a base made from Camphor Laurel - a wide-spread weed in SEQ. The trophy represents ‘closing the loop’ and turning potential waste into a resource.
