Seniors can discover the benefits of the ancient art of Tai Chi
  • Friday 07 April 2017
ImageThe council’s Healthy Sunshine Coast Seniors program offers a wide range of low-cost fitness classes from Strength and Stability group classes to the ancient art of Tai Chi at various locations around the Coast.

Tai Chi is a low impact exercise which involves doing gentle and slow movements, easily adaptable to all fitness levels and age groups.

Healthy Sunshine Coast seniors Tai Chi instructor Zhongmin Neilson, known as Shin, began studying Tai Chi in 2002 as her body was too weak to climb to the third story of a building and she found herself out of breath.

Shin said since she began to study Tai Chi she has experienced several health benefits, including building her immune system and preventing disease.

“There is growing evidence that Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, increase balance and flexibility and improve lower body strength.”

Seniors can select from a range of free and low-cost classes to provide a sense of wellbeing as well as an opportunity to become more connected with their community.

All classes are just $5 for over-55s. All abilities catered for. No bookings required.
