Applications close soon for this year’s Scholarship of Performing Arts, offered by the Events Centre Caloundra.

Division 2 Councillor, and Chairman of the Events Centre, Tim Dwyer said the scholarship presents a fantastic opportunity for young Sunshine Coast students keen to further develop their talents in performing arts.

“The $2,500 Scholarship is designed to provide assistance to a Sunshine Coast resident that is 25 years or younger, and who is undertaking the second year of a full-time accredited tertiary level course in the performing arts in 2016,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Since 2008 the centre has provided financial support to eight talented locals, and it has been wonderful to follow their progress.”

The 2015 winner Nicole Neil was awarded the Scholarship for the Performing Arts to support the progression of her career in stage management. Nicole is studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts – Technical Production at the Queensland University of Technology and working on theatre productions.

The Events Centre General Manager Gary Mears said the closing date for applications had been extended.

“We have extended the application period this year to maximise the availability of this opportunity for artistic young locals,” Mr Mears said.

“There are so many creative youngsters on the Sunshine Coast and this scholarship makes it easier for local talent to work towards their ambitions as a performer or arts worker.”

Applications for the Scholarship for the Performing Arts 2016 close on Monday, February 9.
