The stretch of beach between Cotton Tree Parade and the Maroochy Surf Club will undergo sand nourishment works this week. Division 8 Councillor Jason O’Pray said the works would be carried out from Tuesday to Thursday in preparation for this weekend's Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships.
“This section of coastline suffered some erosion as a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia and these nourishment works are needed to ensure the beach is in a safe and optimal condition for the State Championships from March 27 to 29,” Cr O’Pray said.
“These works will be carried out by large machinery so sections of the foreshore will need to be temporarily restricted for public access.
"However, council will endeavour to keep this disruption to a minimum.
“Major events like the State titles deliver a great deal for the Coast’s economy so it’s important that council carries out these works.”
All sand nourishment works will be carried out in accordance with State Government permits.
