Grab your mates and your sense of adventure and register for the Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge inspired by the TV show Wipeout, coming to council’s Sunshine Coast Stadium on March 13, 2016.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said he was thrilled to announce the Sunshine Coast would be the only Queensland location to host the larger-than-life ROC Race in 2016.
“The Coast is fast becoming the major events capital of regional Australia and securing the ROC Race strengthens our reputation as a destination of choice,” Cr O’Pray said.
“Nothing like this has happened on the Coast before and participants are going to have a ball. This event is definitely an experience of a lifetime and I’ll be the first to register.
“It is anticipated 13,000 participants will take on epic obstacles like no other event can offer. It will make fantastic spectator viewing as well while people dodge everything from wrecking balls, the menacing sweeper, and the hilariously challenging jump balls to the world’s largest inflatable water slide.”
Director of ROC Race Australia and General Manager of The Color Run Australia Luke Hannan said both Sydneysiders and Melbournians had shown huge support for their ROC races.
“We had 13,000 participants registered for Sydney event in just four hours on November 11, making it the fastest sell out in the history of Australian 5K events,” he said.
“This came hot on the heels of a complete sellout of ROC’s Melbourne February 13 event within three days.
“We knew this would be a popular event here in Australia; however, the reaction has been overwhelming. We cannot wait to execute this world-class event on the Sunshine Coast in 2016."
Inspired by popular obstacle game shows including MXC, Wipeout and It’s a Knockout, the Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge 5K (ROC Race) is debuting in select Australian cities as an untimed event for all athletic abilities from couch potatoes to track stars, ages 13 and up with no specialised training required.
Pre-sale registration for the Sunshine Coast event opens at 10am on Tuesday, November 24 at www.rocrace.com.au.
